Imposter Syndrome… the notorious B.I.G… the bug in our personal and professional operating systems.

If you’ve experienced it. I promise. You’re not alone.

It’s the one thing that can steal all your joy and leave you empty, day in and day out, afraid to pursue the future that’s rightfully yours.

Amidst the ups and downs of all my wild and crazy moments — the failed business ventures — the insatiable never-ending list of ideas. If can say with complete certainty that we only lose when we quit, guys. If you never try, you’ll never know.

I, somehow, managed to turn it all into incredible learning experiences to fuel my fire. In doing so, I learned to bury Imposter Syndrome AND the remnants of my past, one day at a time.

Oh, and about that…

The roots leading up to me overcoming Imposter Syndrome has a bit of a dark twist, you might say.

Believe it or not — at one point in life, I was an active drug addict and that obviously didn’t work in my favor very much.

I’ve danced with death, totally died, and returned back (like I left something) with a second shot at life. Yet, the business world never threw me a ‘Welcome Back’ party.

Would you believe that?

My self-worth was like a flashing fatal system error. A daily desktop reminder at the top of my mind. My self-esteem simply didn’t exist.

Something happened to me around that time that changed my entire trajectory forever.

I started walking towards God, and as I did, the fog of self-doubt began to lift. One day, it hit me like a heart-attack — alone, I’m just a speck. But with God…. we’re a divine tag team and that’s a different ball game.

My identity morphed — from Martin the impostor to Martin, God’s humble co-pilot. Totally eager and willing to leave a wildfire blazing in my tracks. This time though, not for me — but for His glory alone. I had to fully believe I was made in His image to no longer reflect my own.

Here’s a banger — most folks are straining to see God through a pinhole, while God’s footprint is bursting beyond the cosmos. Their lens is just too small to see it. God is simply a realm of perfection, and He’s totally worth pursuing.

The adversities, the fall from grace, they were my disguised tutors.

They dragged me through the mud, yes, but showed me the stars too. It showed me who I was created to be, helping me lose sight of who I was. It’s that age-old saga of tragedy birthing triumph… quite the party.

God has a really dry sense of humor sometimes, and in that contrast, there lies a powerful narrative worth embracing. Life hits totally different when Jesus is your compass. If you don’t want to live your life for you, maybe live for Him instead.

I challenge you today to dive deep into your story, find a higher power greater than yourself, and wrestle with the shadows. When the spotlight hits — you’ll find it was all worth while.

Everybody loves a good story.

This is just a small tid-bit that I hope helps you as much as it did me.

I’d love to hear your story someday.

Follow me for more.
